Data center colocation services for businesses that run their own servers

What is server colocation?

Colocation means you own the server and we own the building it lives in.

You buy or already own the hardware. You ship it to our facility, we rack it, connect it to power and bandwidth, and you manage it remotely exactly as you would in your own server room. The difference is what surrounds it: generator backup, N+1 cooling, fire suppression, biometric entry control and a network with multiple upstream carriers.

It helps to see where colocation sits against the alternatives:

Colocation makes sense when you have already invested in hardware, when a licence is tied to specific physical machines, when your compliance team wants to know exactly which box holds the data, or when the maths on a five-year cloud bill stops looking friendly. If you would rather not own hardware at all, our managed dedicated bare metal servers and cloud VPS cover the same workloads without the capital outlay.

Why choose DevPeter among colocation data center providers

There are plenty of colocation data center providers in India. Here is what separates a facility that survives a bad monsoon week from one that does not.

Tier III+ designed facility

The building is designed to Tier III+ standards, which means concurrently maintainable infrastructure. Engineers can service a UPS, a precision cooler or a distribution path without powering down your rack. Maintenance windows stop being your problem.

Redundant power and cooling

N+1 redundancy on both power and cooling. Dual utility feeds, UPS with battery backup, diesel generator backup, and precision cooling sized above the load rather than exactly at it. Detail is in the facility section below.

Physical security you can audit

Biometric access control, CCTV coverage with recorded retention, visitor logging, and no entry to your rack without your authorisation on file. Bring your auditor. We would rather they inspect the facility before you sign than after something goes wrong.

An uptime commitment written into the contract

We publish a 99.991% uptime target. More importantly, the SLA defines what happens if we miss it, in writing, before you sign. Ask for the SLA document during evaluation and read the remedies clause.

Carrier-neutral connectivity

We are not tied to one telco. Multiplex connectivity is ready from Tata, Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, Reliance RCOM, Ishan and Blazenet. Pick your carrier, run two for redundancy, or bring your own circuit and we will cross-connect it.

Engineers on site, not on a ticket queue

Certified engineers are in the building 24/7. When a drive fails at 3 a.m. you get a person at your rack, not a callback window.

Dedicated server colocation: bring your own hardware

Dedicated server colocation is the specific case where you already own the machine and just need a proper home for it. This is the most common request we get from IT teams shutting down an office server room.

What we accept. Standard 19-inch rack-mountable equipment, 1U upward. Servers, storage arrays, switches, firewalls, backup appliances and tape libraries. If you are running tower units, tell us during the site assessment and we will quote shelf space instead.

What you need to supply. Rail kits, power cords with the correct connector type, and an asset list with serial numbers, dimensions in rack units, power draw in watts, and the IP configuration you want. We will send a pre-shipment checklist so nothing arrives incomplete.

What we handle. Receiving and inspection against your asset list, racking and cable management, PDU connection with your allocated circuit, IP assignment and uplink configuration, and a photo record of the installed rack so you know exactly how it went in.

What stays yours. Root and iLO/iDRAC access, your operating system, your hypervisor, your patching schedule, your data. We do not touch anything inside the machine unless you raise a remote hands request. Your hardware also remains your property under all circumstances, with contractual right of physical access and removal.

For teams migrating gradually, a common pattern is to colocate existing hardware now and add rented bare metal capacity alongside it later, in the same rack, on the same network.

H2: Inside the facility: power, cooling and physical security

Power

Dual incoming utility feeds. UPS systems in N+1 configuration with battery autonomy sufficient to cover generator start and load transfer on Diesel generator backup. Unmetered A and B feed distribution to each rack, so a single PDU or circuit failure does not take your equipment offline.

Cooling

Precision cooling in N+1 configuration with hot and cold aisle containment. Temperature and humidity are held inside ASHRAE recommended ranges and monitored continuously, with alerting on drift rather than only on failure.

Fire detection and suppression

Very early smoke detection paired with a clean-agent gaseous suppression system. Clean agent matters here: it puts out a fire without soaking your servers, which a sprinkler will do reliably and expensively.

Access control

Multi-factor entry to the data hall using access card plus biometric verification. CCTV across the perimeter, entry points and data hall aisles, with recorded footage retained for 30 days. Every visit is logged against a named authorised contact from your organisation. Private cage customers control their own cage-level biometric list, and our staff do not enter without your explicit authorisation.

Monitoring

A 24/7 operations desk watches power draw, thermal conditions, network state and environmental sensors. Alerts escalate to on-shift engineers before thresholds become incidents.

Compliance and certifications

  • ISO/IEC 27001 information security management: [certificate number, scope, issuing body, valid through]
  • ISO 9001 quality management: [It provides a framework for organizations to ensure they consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency]
  • ISO 20001:2018 IT Service Management (ITSM): [that specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving a Service Management System (SMS)]

Data residency. All customer equipment stays inside India, in Gujarat, under Indian legal jurisdiction. For organisations working through obligations under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or the RBI directive on storage of payment system data, physical location and jurisdiction are the first questions your auditor will ask, and a domestic facility answers both cleanly.

Colocation plans, from a single 1U server to a private cage

Every deployment is quoted on space, power and bandwidth, because a 1U firewall and a 1U compute node draw very different amounts of current. Rough sizing:

Option

Space

Typical power

Suited to

Shared rack

1U to 4U

Up to ~1 kW

A single server, a DR node, a branch or edge deployment, an SMB stepping out of a cupboard

Quarter rack

10U

~1 to 2 kW

Small clusters, backup targets, a growing application stack

Half rack

20U

~2 to 4 kW

Mid-size deployments with separate compute, storage and network tiers

Full rack

42U

~4 to 8 kW

Dedicated circuits, lockable cabinet, full control of your own rack layout

Private cage

Multiple racks

Scaled to design

Regulated workloads, board mandates on third-party access, isolated floor space with your own locks

Shared racks come with isolated power and a lockable compartment. From a full rack upward you get a dedicated circuit and the ability to run your own internal cabling however you like. Private cages are floor to ceiling, with access controlled by your list, not ours.

Scaling between tiers does not mean a new contract cycle or a physical move. If you outgrow a half rack, we extend into adjacent space in the same suite.

Pricing depends on rack units, committed power draw, bandwidth or transfer commitment, IP allocation, cross-connects and any remote hands retainer. Send us your asset list and we will return an itemised quote rather than a headline rate that grows at invoice time.

Connectivity and network

Multiple carriers, no lock-in

Ready multiplex connectivity from Tata, Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, Reliance RCOM, Ishan and Blazenet. Being carrier-neutral means you negotiate your own circuit commercially and we deliver it to your rack, or you take bandwidth from us. Most customers run two carriers on separate paths so a single provider outage is an inconvenience rather than an outage.

Bandwidth and burst

Committed bandwidth with defined burst capability, or unmetered ports where the traffic profile suits it. Both IPv4 and IPv6 allocations are available. [standard port speeds offered, 1G / 10G]

Low-latency routing and peering

Our upstream mix keeps traffic to major Indian eyeball networks on short paths, which matters for anything interactive: Tally clients, ERP sessions, VoIP, remote desktop. Ahmedabad also puts you close to the Mumbai interconnect ecosystem without Mumbai real estate costs.

Cloud and hyperscaler connectivity

Hybrid is the normal state of things now. We support private connectivity from your colocated hardware into AWS, Azure and Google Cloud so you can keep a licensed database or a compliance-bound dataset on your own hardware while application tiers run in public cloud. [CONFIRM: This is delivered via carrier circuits.]

Cross-connects

Copper or fibre cross-connects between your rack and another tenant, a carrier's MMR presence, or a second rack of your own. Useful for private replication links between production and DR racks.

DDoS protection

Upstream volumetric DDoS mitigation is available so an attack is scrubbed before it reaches your port and saturates your circuit. [CONFIRM: On-demand, and whether it is an add-on.]

Who uses our data center colocation services

Businesses closing an on-premise server room

The office server room usually ends the same way: the AC fails over a long weekend, or the landlord raises the rent, or the person who understood the UPS leaves. Colocation moves the same hardware into a purpose-built environment without rewriting a single application. No re-platforming, no licence renegotiation, no retraining.

Enterprises building a disaster recovery site

If production sits in Mumbai, Bengaluru or your own campus, a rack in Ahmedabad gives you geographic separation on a different power grid and a different flood profile. Replicate over a private cross-connect and run a live failover test in the facility before you commit. Pair colocation with our disaster recovery and backup options for a full secondary site.

Teams that need hardware control without the infrastructure overhead

Specific GPU configurations, storage arrays with particular controller cards, appliances that must be physical, software licensed per socket. Some workloads need real hardware. Colocation gives you the hardware without also giving you a generator maintenance contract.

Regulated industries

BFSI, healthcare, insurance and government suppliers usually face two constraints: the data must stay in India, and the auditor must be able to see where it lives. A domestically operated facility under Indian jurisdiction answers both. Private cage deployments add documented physical isolation for board-level mandates on third-party access.

System integrators and IT service providers

Host multiple client environments in one rack or cage, with your branding in front of it and our engineers behind it. White-label remote hands is available under NDA.

 Remote hands and on-site support

Our engineers act as your hands in the building. Standard remote hands covers:

  • Power cycling, hard resets and console access
  • Cable checks, reseating, port moves and patching
  • Swapping failed drives, PSUs, memory or cards from your spares held on site
  • Media handling, tape rotation and mounting installation media
  • Visual inspection with photographs sent to your ticket
  • Escorting your own engineers or a vendor field technician during a site visit

Deeper work such as full hardware installation, rack and stack of new equipment, structured cabling and OEM coordination is quoted separately.

Requests come in by phone, email or WhatsApp and are logged with timestamps. [CONFIRM: E-mail Technical Support

Email technical support is available to you 24 hours, 7 Days a week, 365 Days a year. You can report any issues by sending an email to tech@devpeterdatacenter.com. Standard response time for email support is 2 to 4 hours.

Phone Technical Support

Standard Phone Technical Support is available to you between the hours of 9 AM to 9 PM IST. Emergency technical support is also available in case of service interruption 24 hours a day. This service is only for emergency purposes if the issue is caused on the server end/data center’s end.]

Emergency response. Hardware failures do not respect business hours. Critical requests are actioned immediately by the on-shift engineer rather than queued until morning.

How onboarding works

1. Site assessment and design

We review your asset list, power draw and connectivity needs, then recommend a rack configuration and quote it. You are welcome to tour the facility at this stage. Most customers do, and the ones evaluating several colocation data center providers should tour all of them.

2. Hardware shipping or migration

Ship the equipment yourself or have us coordinate collection and transport. For live migrations we plan the sequence with your team, agree a maintenance window, and execute with your people present. Equipment is checked against your asset list on arrival and any discrepancy is flagged before racking.

3. Racking and network configuration

We install the hardware, connect A and B power feeds, configure your uplink, assign IPs, set up cross-connects and test the path end to end. You get remote access credentials and photographs of the finished rack.

4. Go-live and handover

You verify your systems are reachable and behaving. We confirm monitoring is active on your rack, share the escalation matrix with named contacts and direct numbers, and set your access authorisation list. Then it is live.

[CONFIRM: typical timeline from signed order to go-live, Within 24 hours for a standard rack.]

Faqs

What is the minimum contract term for colocation?

[CONFIRM 3 Months to 1 Year:] Standard agreements run 12 months, with 24 and 36 month terms available at better rates. Shorter pilot terms can be arranged for DR testing or proof of concept. Because colocation involves physically installing your hardware, month-to-month is uncommon across the industry.

What hardware can I colocate?

Standard 19-inch rack-mountable equipment from 1U upward: servers, storage, switches, firewalls and backup appliances. Bring your own rail kits and power cords. Send us the asset list with dimensions and power draw and we will confirm fit before anything ships. Non-rackmount equipment can usually be accommodated on shelves, but tell us early.

Is remote hands available 24/7, and what does it cost?

Yes, engineers are on site around the clock. Basic tasks like a power cycle or a cable reseat are covered under your support allowance. Extended work is billed at an agreed hourly rate, quoted before we begin so there are no surprises on the invoice. [CONFIRM allowance and rate usually INR 1500 Per Hour otherwise it depends upon case to case.]

Who can physically access my equipment?

Only people on your authorised list, verified by access card and biometrics, and logged on every visit. Our engineers do not open your rack without a request from an authorised contact. Private cage customers manage their own access list. Full CCTV and entry logs are available to you and to your auditors.

How is colocation priced?

By rack units occupied, committed power in kW, bandwidth or data transfer, IP allocation, cross-connects and any remote hands retainer. Power is usually the constraint that decides the tier rather than physical space. We quote itemised so you can see what drives the number.

How does migration from my current server room or provider work?

We start by mapping your current setup and dependencies, then design the sequence and the cutover window with your team. For anything that cannot take downtime we stage in parallel: install and configure at our facility, replicate, verify, then cut over. Most of the risk in a migration sits in the planning, so that is where the time goes.

Can I add cloud or managed services later?

Yes. Colocated hardware, managed bare metal, cloud VPS and Tally on Cloud run in the same facility on the same network. Hybrid deployments stay under one contract, one support desk and one escalation path.
